Chaetodon bennetti, commonly known as Bennett's butterflyfish, is a species of butterflyfish found in the Indo-Pacific region. Like other butterflyfish, it has a distinctive, colorful pattern on its body, making it a popular species for aquarium enthusiasts. Here are some key characteristics of Chaetodon bennetti:
Appearance: Bennett's butterflyfish has a deep, compressed body with a pointed snout and a small mouth. The body is primarily white with diagonal yellow-orange stripes running across the upper half, along with a black vertical band crossing the eye and extending to the rear part of the body. The tail fin is yellowish, and the dorsal fin has a black spot near the tail.
Distribution: This species is native to the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, East Africa, and the western Pacific Ocean. Its range extends from the eastern coast of Africa to the central Pacific islands, including locations such as the Maldives, Indonesia, and the Great Barrier Reef.
Habitat: Bennett's butterflyfish prefers coral-rich environments such as coral reefs, lagoons, and reef slopes. They are often seen in pairs or small groups, and they tend to stay close to shelter and hide among corals when threatened.
Diet: As with other butterflyfish, their diet consists mainly of small invertebrates, coral polyps, and zooplankton.
Behavior: These butterflyfish are generally peaceful but can become territorial, especially during breeding periods when they protect their nesting sites.
