The Blue-Girdled Angelfish, also known as the Regal Angelfish or Blue-Ringed Angelfish, is a stunning species of marine angelfish belonging to the family Pomacanthidae. Its scientific name is Pomacanthus navarchus. As the name suggests, it is recognized for its striking blue markings and bands that encircle its body.
Key characteristics of the Blue-Girdled Angelfish include:
Coloration: The body of the fish is predominantly dark blue, and it has a broad, vertical orange-yellow band around the midsection of its body, which is the characteristic feature responsible for its common names.
Size: Adult Blue-Girdled Angelfish can reach lengths of up to 14 inches (35 cm).
Habitat: They are typically found in coral reefs, lagoons, and rocky areas of the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Hawaiian Islands, and the western Pacific Ocean.
Behavior: Blue-Girdled Angelfish are generally solitary or found in pairs. They are known to be territorial and can be somewhat aggressive towards other angelfish or similar-looking species.
Diet: In their natural habitat, they primarily feed on sponges, algae, and small invertebrates.
