Acanthurus fowleri, commonly known as Fowler's surgeonfish or Fowler's tang, is a species of marine fish belonging to the family Acanthuridae. Here are some key characteristics and information about Acanthurus fowleri:

Appearance: Fowler's surgeonfish has a vibrant coloration. It has a dark bluish-black body with a broad, bright yellow band extending from the head to the base of the tail. The tail itself is forked, and it has a sharp spine at the base of the tail, which is a characteristic feature of surgeonfish.

Size: It can reach a maximum length of around 25 centimeters (10 inches) in the wild, although individuals in captivity are often smaller.

Distribution: Fowler's surgeonfish is native to the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean, specifically the eastern coast of Africa, from the Red Sea to the coasts of Mozambique and South Africa.

Habitat: It inhabits coral reefs and is usually found in shallow areas with clear water. They prefer areas with an abundance of live corals and rocky substrates.

Behavior: Acanthurus fowleri is typically a peaceful fish and can be kept in aquariums with other non-aggressive species. It is herbivorous, feeding primarily on algae and other plant material found on the reef.

Aquarium care: If you are considering keeping Fowler's surgeonfish in an aquarium, it is important to provide them with a spacious tank with plenty of swimming space and hiding spots. They require a well-maintained reef environment with suitable lighting and water conditions. Additionally, a varied diet consisting of marine algae and supplemental feeds should be provided to meet their nutritional needs.
