The Harlequin Hind Grouper, scientifically known as Cephalopholis polleni, is a species of fish belonging to the Serranidae family, which includes groupers and sea basses. This species is also commonly referred to as the Blue-Spotted Grouper or the Black-Spotted Grouper.

The Harlequin Hind Grouper is known for its striking appearance, characterized by a dark body with vivid blue spots covering its head and upper body. These spots often appear in a unique pattern, adding to its allure.

These groupers are typically found in coral reefs and rocky areas in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the western Pacific Ocean. They prefer shallow waters with plenty of hiding spots among rocks and crevices.

In terms of behavior, Harlequin Hind Groupers are primarily carnivorous, feeding on small fish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates. They are known to be solitary and territorial fish, defending their territory from intruders.
