Description
Centropyge venusta, commonly known as the Purple Masked Angelfish, is a stunning and highly prized species in the aquarium hobby. Here are some care guidelines to ensure the well-being of this beautiful fish:
Tank Size: Provide a tank of at least 70 gallons (265 litres) for a single Venusta Angelfish. Larger tanks are preferable, especially if you keep them with other fish or invertebrates.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-25°C), pH level between 8.1-8.4, and specific gravity around 1.020-1.025. Regular monitoring and adjustments are essential for keeping these parameters stable.
Tank Setup: Create a well-aerated tank with plenty of hiding spots and live rock formations to mimic their natural habitat. Venusta Angelfish appreciate caves, overhangs, and crevices where they can seek shelter and explore. Ensure there is also enough open space for swimming.
Diet: Venusta Angelfish are omnivores but tend to graze primarily on algae in the wild. Offer a varied diet consisting of high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and spirulina. Supplement their diet with marine algae, nori, or seaweed sheets to satisfy their need for vegetable matter.
Compatibility: Venusta Angelfish can be territorial, especially towards other angelfish species or similar-looking fish. Please exercise caution when keeping them with other aggressive or territorial species. Compatible tank mates include peaceful to semi-aggressive marine fish and invertebrates like certain species of clownfish, gobies, blennies, and reef-safe invertebrates.
Health Monitoring: Monitor the fish regularly for any signs of disease, stress, or aggression. Common health issues include marine ich (white spot disease), parasitic infections, and bacterial infections. Quarantine new fish before introducing them to the main tank to prevent the spread of diseases.
Tank Mates: Choose tank mates carefully, avoiding overly aggressive or territorial species that may bully or stress the Venusta Angelfish. Ideal tank mates are peaceful to semi-aggressive marine fish and invertebrates compatible with their temperament and dietary needs.
