The Ruby Red Dragonet, scientifically known as Synchiropus sycorax, is a mesmerizing fish species highly sought after by marine enthusiasts for its vibrant coloration and intriguing behavior. As its name suggests, the Ruby Red Dragonet displays a stunning ruby-red hue that sets it apart from other dragonet species.
Native to the Western Pacific Ocean, particularly found in areas like Indonesia and the Philippines, these fish inhabit shallow reef environments characterized by sandy substrates and coral rubble. They prefer to dwell among these structures where they can find shelter and hunt for small crustaceans and invertebrates, which form the bulk of their diet.
Caring for Ruby Red Dragonets requires attention to detail and dedication to provide them with the specific conditions they need to thrive. Here are some essential care guidelines:
Tank Setup: Provide a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock and sandy substrate. These fish enjoy exploring and foraging among rocks and sand, mimicking their natural habitat. Ensure the tank has sufficient hiding spots and places to explore.

Feeding: Ruby Red Dragonets are carnivorous and require a varied diet consisting of small live or frozen foods. Offer them copepods, amphipods, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Ensure food is of appropriate size to prevent choking hazards.
Supplemental Feeding: Since Ruby Red Dragonets have small mouths, they may struggle to compete with other tank mates for food. Consider setting up a refugium or a separate feeding container where copepods and amphipods can thrive, providing a constant supply of live food.
Compatibility: Ruby Red Dragonets are generally peaceful but can be territorial towards their own species. Keep them in a species-specific tank or with peaceful tank mates that won't outcompete them for food. Avoid aggressive or larger fish that may harass or intimidate them.
