Ctenochaetus tominiensis, commonly known as the Tomini bristletooth, is a species of surgeonfish found in the Western Pacific Ocean. Here are some key details about Ctenochaetus tominiensis:

Appearance: The Tomini bristletooth has a slender and elongated body, typical of surgeonfish. It has a dark brownish to bluish-gray coloration on the upper body, which fades to a lighter shade on the lower body. The scales are small and embedded, giving it a smooth appearance. Like other surgeonfish, it has a sharp, scalpel-like spine on each side of the tail base.

Size: The average size of Ctenochaetus tominiensis is around 15 to 20 centimeters (6 to 8 inches) in length, although some individuals can grow up to 25 centimeters (10 inches) long.

Distribution: This species is native to the Western Pacific Ocean. It is commonly found in the waters around Indonesia, specifically in the Tomini Bay and nearby regions. It may also occur in other parts of Indonesia, such as the Moluccas and Sulawesi.

Habitat: Tomini bristletooths inhabit coral reef ecosystems, particularly areas with mixed coral and rocky formations. They are often found in areas with moderate to strong water flow. These fish prefer depths ranging from 3 to 30 meters (10 to 100 feet) but are commonly found around 10 to 20 meters (30 to 65 feet) deep.

Diet: Ctenochaetus tominiensis is primarily herbivorous, feeding on algae and other plant material. It uses its specialized teeth to scrape algae from coral and rocks. Bristletooth surgeonfishes play an essential role in reef ecosystems by controlling algal growth, which helps maintain the overall health and balance of the coral reef.

Behavior: The Tomini bristletooth is generally peaceful and non-aggressive. It tends to be solitary or found in small groups. Like other surgeonfish, it can swim swiftly and possesses excellent maneuverability, thanks to its streamlined body shape.
