Description
Phosban-L is concentrated Lathanum solution for use in aquariums to control dissolved phosphate. Phosban-L has an extremely high capacity to bind large quantities of phosphate quickly, making it an excellent choice for removing phosphate from aquarium water when phosphate level is unusually high. It is more economical to use than granular media. Phosban-L is safe to use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums and ponds. With Phosban-L, large fish populations can be maintained without high PO4 accumulation. In reef aquariums Phosban-L is a practical way to help maintain the low phosphate levels needed to promote rapid growth of corals. Use Phosban-L when dissolved phosphate level is above 0.2 mg/L and slowly dose enough to bring the level down to about 0.1 mg/L over a period of days. Lanthanum chloride is very effective at lowering dissolved phosphate when the concentration is above 0.1 mg/L. When the phosphate concentration is below 0.1 mg/L it is less effective, and that may result inresidual lanthanum chloride remaining in the aquarium water. At 0.1 mg/L, use Phosban GFO to absorb phosphate and maintain levels below 0.03ppm.
Directions: Dilute Phospban-L by mixing 100ml of Phosban-L with 200ml of reverse osmosis or deionized water. Just 5ml of diluted solution added to 20 US gallons will remove up to 1 ppm of dissolved phosphate. It is best to dose this amount drop-wise, over the course of several hours or days, and only into a filter sock to trap the precipitate formed. Do not add more than this amount per day, even if phosphate level is higher than 1 ppm. Phosban-L binds dissolved phosphate and forms an insoluble precipitate in the water, which causes cloudiness. For this reason, the best way to use Phosban-L is to dose it drop-wise into a filter sock located on a drain or water feed line. The filter sock acts as a mechanical filter to trap the fine precipitate. A 5-micron filter sock will trap the precipitate so that it does not cloud the aquarium. NOTE: some alkalinity is lost when controlling phosphate with an GFO or lanthanum chloride phosphate binder. Always monitor and supplement alkalinity when using them.
Warning: Dosing enough to cloud the water in an acrylic aquarium can cause a precipitate to form on the acrylic windows.
Contents: Lanthanum chloride 33% solution in water.
Warning: Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not take internally. Keep away from food. In case of contact, wash skin with soap and plenty of water. For eye contact, flush plenty of water and seek medical attention. For aquarium use only. Keep out of reach of children.
