The Two Spot Bristletooth Tang, scientific name Ctenochaetus binotatus, is a species of marine fish belonging to the family Acanthuridae. It is also commonly known as the Two Spot Tang or Two Spot Surgeonfish.

Here are some key features and information about the Two Spot Bristletooth Tang:

Appearance: The Two Spot Bristletooth Tang has an elongated oval-shaped body with a pointed snout and a small mouth. It has a vibrant coloration, with a dark bluish-black body and a series of light blue to yellow spots on its sides. It has two prominent white spots, one located near its eye and the other near its caudal peduncle (base of the tail). It also possesses bristle-like teeth on its lips, which gives it its common name.

Size: It can reach a maximum size of around 8-10 inches (20-25 cm) in length when fully grown. However, in home aquariums, they usually reach a smaller size of around 6-8 inches (15-20 cm).

Distribution: The Two Spot Bristletooth Tang is found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the eastern coast of Africa, the Maldives, and various islands in the western Pacific Ocean.

Habitat: They inhabit coral reefs and reef flats, typically at depths ranging from 3 to 82 feet (1 to 25 meters). They are commonly observed in areas with a rich growth of macroalgae, which forms a significant part of their diet.

Behavior: These tangs are generally peaceful but can display territorial behavior towards other fish of the same species or similar body shape. They are active swimmers and require a spacious aquarium with plenty of swimming space.

Diet: The Two Spot Bristletooth Tang is an herbivorous fish that primarily feeds on filamentous algae, macroalgae, and some types of marine plants. It uses its specialized bristle-like teeth to scrape algae off rocks and coral surfaces.

Aquarium Care: To keep a Two Spot Bristletooth Tang in captivity, it is recommended to have a well-established aquarium with a minimum size of 70 gallons (265 liters). The tank should provide ample hiding places, open swimming areas, and live rock or macroalgae for grazing. It is essential to maintain good water quality, including stable temperature, salinity, and appropriate filtration.

Compatibility: They can be kept with other peaceful fish species in a large enough aquarium. However, caution should be exercised when introducing them with other tangs or fish that have similar body shapes, as territorial conflicts can arise. They should also be kept in groups of one male with multiple females, as this mimics their natural social structure.

Overall, the Two Spot Bristletooth Tang is a beautiful and interesting fish species that can make a captivating addition to a well-maintained marine aquarium.
